On July 15, 2009, at 2:30 p.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department’s Communications Center received a call from a man reporting his friend was dead and he died from a gunshot wound. Deputies arrived at an apartment complex in the 4600 block of Orange Grove Avenue and found an 18-year-old male victim in a second story apartment suffering from a wound to his upper body. Paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
According to witnesses in the complex, two men were seen leaving the apartment at the time of the shooting. The first subject was described as a white male, 5’4” to 5’7” tall with a thin build, wearing a white tee shirt and jeans. The second subject called the Sheriff’s Department, shortly after the first call regarding the shooting, to say he ran to an apartment in the 2900 block of Marconi Avenue. Deputies arrived at that location and detained him for questioning.
Sheriff’s Homicide detectives have initiated an investigation and are treating the case as a suspicious death. The Sacramento County Coroner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of the victim’s death. The coroner’s office will release his identity after notifying his next-of-kin.
Detectives are attempting to locate the first subject seen leaving the scene to determine what, if any, role he played in this case. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Sheriff’s Homicide detectives at (916) 874-5115.
