A large grass fire kept Sacramento Firefighters busy this morning north of the Sacramento International Airport. The fire was first reported at 1:44 A.M. by personnel working in the control tower at the airport. Firefighters arrived on scene in this remote location in about 15 minutes.
A second and third alarm was requested to help stop this large moving fire. There were no structures immediately threatened, but the fire did have a huge head start and Firefighters were hampered by access problems. It took about two hours for Firefighters to get a handle on this fire.
There are currently about five large haystacks that are burning and will probably continue to burn for most of the day. Firefighters from Sacramento Metro and West Sacramento Fire also responded. The cause of this fire is unknown.
