Boating Under The Influence Checkpoint

On Saturday July 11, 2009, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, in cooperation with the United States Coast Guard Station Rio Vista, Alameda, El Dorado, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Yolo, Lake, and Placer County Sheriff’s Departments, the Sacramento Police Department, the Suisun Police Department and California State Parks will be conducting a Boating Under the Influence (BUI) Checkpoint on the Sacramento River, in the vicinity of Discovery Park.

The checkpoint is intended to reduce the number of alcohol-related accidents and injuries and to enforce California Boating laws on the water. Boaters will be stopped briefly and questioned. Those operators showing signs of alcohol use or intoxication may be subjected to further testing.

Anyone found to have blood alcohol content at or above .08%, as prescribed by law, may be subject to arrest and incarceration.
