An 18 year old male became the latest victim of our area’s rivers. This afternoon at 2:54 P.M. the Sacramento Fire Department responded to a report of a swimmer missing at Tiscornia Beach at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers. We were on scene in a little over 6 minutes.
Firefighters received reports from the victim’s friends that he was swimming off the beach, about 25 yards when a wave made him go underwater. He never surfaced. Sacramento Firefighters began the search for the missing man. After about one hour the search transitioned from “rescue” mode to a “recovery”. So far the victim has not been found.
This is a sad reminder of just how dangerous our rivers and waterways are. The victim’s friends reported that he knew how to swim. These waters do not discriminate against anyone, whether they are good swimmers or not. These waters will “kill” you.
The Sacramento Fire Department also received assistance from the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Park Rangers, the California Highway Patrol, the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, and the Yolo County Sheriffs Department.
