Mylar Balloon Causes 2 Alarm Grass Fire
At 10:20 am Metro Fire responded to a grass fire of Carmencita Ave. Additional resources were called due to the threat of homes catching fire. Due to the fast fire fighting action from ground crews and Copter 1, no homes were lost. According to SMUD a Mylar balloon landed on the power lines causing them to arc which ignited two separate grass fires. It took over 50 fire fighters 34 minutes to bring the fire under control. No fire fighters were injured and one civilian suffered breathing problems and was transported by a private vehicle.
