Death Of 5-Year-Old Child Results In Homicide Arrest

On June 18, 2009, at 11:50 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Child Abuse Bureau detectives arrested 31-year-old Eduardo Zamora, Jr. for the murder of his girlfriend’s 5-year-old male child. Zamora, Jr. was taken into custody at the home he shared with the victim and the victim’s 25-year-old mother in the Rosemont area.
On June 17, 2009, at 10:49 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies and Rancho Cordova Police Department officers responded to a home in the 3600 block of South Port Drive to assist the Sacramento Metro Fire Department on a call involving an unresponsive 5-year-old boy. Zamora, Jr., who was home alone with the victim, told arriving paramedics he called 9-1-1 because the boy had stopped breathing.

Paramedics transported the young boy to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Hospital officials told Sheriff’s personnel the child had suffered injuries indicative of child abuse. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Zamora, Jr. and the victim’s mother were questioned by Sheriff’s Child Abuse detectives. As a result of the interviews the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Zamora, Jr earlier today.

Zamora, Jr. was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on the charges of murder and assault on a child with force likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in death.
