On May 21, 2009, at 5:27 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives arrested 46-year-old Rancho Cordova resident Jeffrey B. Campbell for the murder of 19-year-old Frederick Howard.
On May 20, 2009, at 10:33 a.m., Rancho Cordova Police Department officers responded to the report of a body that had been found behind a business in the 3100 block of Fite Circle. Officers arrived and found Howard’s body lying behind a dumpster. He had suffered a wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
After an exhaustive investigation, Sheriff’s Homicide detectives believe Campbell and Howard were acquainted. They believe sometime during the early morning hours of May, 19, 2009, Campbell stabbed and killed Howard after arguing with him at an undetermined location in the Rancho Cordova area. Detectives further believe shortly after the stabbing Campbell transported Howard’s body to the randomly selected location on Fite Circle where he was found.
Campbell was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on one count of murder and is being held without bail.
