On Saturday, May 16, 2009, from noon to 4:00 p.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department’s Air Operations Bureau will hold its 1st Annual Fly-in, Open House and Barbeque to raise funds to benefit AirOpsCops. AirOpsCops is a non-profit charity organization which raises money to preserve and maintain the STAR 6 Memorial statue (see photo below). The statue was erected at Lake Natoma in memory of Deputies Joe Kievernagle and Kevin Blount who were killed; and Deputy Eric Henrikson who was severely injured when the Sheriff’s Department’s STAR 6 helicopter crashed on July 13, 2005.
The public is invited to attend this event to meet the members of the Sheriff’s Air Operations Bureau and tour the facilities. Many exciting prizes will also be auctioned and raffled off.
