On May 19, 2009, at 5:02 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of the sounds of a gunshot and a woman’s scream heard in the 2800 block of La Quinta Drive. Deputies arrived and found a 20-year-old Black male lying on the sidewalk and suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Investigators have learned the victim had been involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend inside their La Quinta Drive apartment. After the fight the victim walked outside where he was shot moments later by an unknown suspect. The victim’s girlfriend then went outside and found him lying on the sidewalk.
The victim’s girlfriend was detained and is cooperating with Sheriff’s Homicide detectives. Deputies and detectives canvassed the neighborhood but were unable to locate anyone who witnessed the shooting. Neither a suspect, nor a motive for the shooting has been identified.
