Near Drowning In American River

A female in her 20’s nearly became the first river drowning victim of the year this afternoon. Sacramento Firefighters responded to the American River near Bercut Drive for multiple reports of a female who may have drowned. When Firefighters arrived, the victim was out of the water and alive.

Circumstances of the incident are not fully known, but alcohol intoxication is thought to be partially to blame. The victim was transported by Sacramento Firefighters to a nearby hospital where she is expected to survive.

With the current heat wave, a lot of people are flocking to area waterways where the water is extremely cold and swift. It does not take much to drown in these conditions. Always wear a life jacket when you are near or in our region’s waterways.
