On March 25, 2009 at 1:30pm The California Army National Guard, specifically the 812th Medical Detachment (air ambulance) is transferring a UH-1 over to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District at our air ops branch located at 4727 Kilzer Ave on McClellan park.
The UH-1 in question was built in 1970 and configured for medevac but capable of performing utility missions such as passenger transport, air assaults and external loads which would include aerial Fire fighting.
With the assistance of the California Office of Emergency Management and federal authorities, SMFD applied for, and was granted the transfer of one surplus UH-1 Helicopter at no cost to the Department. The CARNG was tasked to prepare and deliver the aircraft to SMFD on 25 March 2009. Personnel from the CARNG took great care in insuring that the aircraft was inspected and any and all necessary inspections and or repairs were completed. These inspections and repairs were not mandatory and are a tribute to the CARNG and their commitment to insure that SMFD received a viable and mission ready aircraft to serve our community.
This addition to Metro Fires Air Operation Branch is nothing more than awesome. With an additional like helicopter our air operations can use this aircraft for extensive training without putting extensive hours on our primary response aircraft.
