CHP Needs Public Help In Fatal Collision Of Mother Of 5

On February 16, 2009 at approximately 7:14 p.m., Christopher Sandbach, a 45 year old from Orangevale was driving a white 2001 Ford F350 pickup on eastbound Madison Avenue east of Beauregard at an unknown speed. Angelique Mayo, a 38 year old from Fair Oaks was driving a gray 2001 Chevy Suburban and stopped facing northbound in the driveway of 9160 Madison Avenue getting ready to turn eastbound onto Madison Avenue. Sandbach was driving under the influence of alcohol and lost control of his vehicle in the heavy rain. The left front of Sandbach’s vehicle broadsided the drivers’ side of Mayo’s Suburban as she was stopped. The impact caused the Suburban to spin clockwise and came to rest facing southbound in a grass area. Mayo was pronounced dead at the scene. Sandbach was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital with minor lacerations and scrapes to his body then booked into the Sacramento County Jail for gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.

Prior to the collision, a witness observed Sandbach’s vehicle traveling eastbound on Madison Avenue approaching the rear of a green Honda. Sandbach swerved to the right, going around the Honda then shortly thereafter lost control of his vehicle. The driver of the Honda stopped near the scene, got out of his vehicle, then continued on. The CHP is asking the driver of the green Honda to please contact them for a statement. The driver is not a party to this collision, however; their statement is very crucial. If you are the driver of the Honda (or similar type vehicle) and/or if you observed Sandbach’s white 2001 Ford F350 traveling on eastbound Madison Avenue at the approximate date and time listed above, please contact Officer Gotts or Officer Hanson at the North Sacramento CHP office at (916) 338-6710.
