79 Year Old Passenger Dies In Antelope Traffic Collision

On March 9, 2009, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Dale Thomas, a 78 year old from Antelope was driving a grey 1989 Toyota Corolla on northbound Walerga Road north of Antelope. Thomas was in the two way left hand turn lane preparing to turn left into the parking lot of 7709 Walerga Road. Alina Gergi, an 18 year old from Antelope was driving a white 2007 Toyota Scion southbound in the #2 lane of Walerga Road at unknown speed approaching Thomas’s location. Thomas began to turn left directly in the path of the Scion. Gergi applied the brakes of her vehicle and turn to the right but was unable to avoid striking the Corolla. The Corolla’s tires struck the curb on the south side of the driveway causing it to roll over on its roof. Both vehicles sustained major damage. Dale Thomas was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center for a fractured shoulder and contusion to his lung. His wife June Thomas, 79 years old, was sitting in the right front passenger with her seatbelt fastened, however; she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Gergi and her 17 year old female passenger were transported to Sutter Roseville hospital with complaint of pain to their chest and neck.

Alcohol and/or drugs don’t appear to be a contributing factor in this collision. This collision is still under investigation.
