On February 27, 2009 at approximately 6:40 p.m., a 70 year old male from North Highlands was crossing the street from the south side of Elverta Road to the north side, just west of Walerga Road. The pedestrian had crossed the eastbound lanes and entered into the westbound lanes. A 34 year old male from Antelope was driving a white 1993 Ford Bronco westbound on Elverta Road just west of Walerga Road at approximately 35 mph in the far right lane. The driver did not see the pedestrian and the left front of his vehicle struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The pedestrian was wearing jeans and a dark colored jacket and was not crossing in a crosswalk. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not a contributing factor in this collision. This collision is still under investigation.
