The City of Sacramento is advising the public of temporary, significant traffic impacts February 13 and 14, associated with the Amgen Tour of California bicycle event. This will be the first year the City will host the Overall Start for the Amgen Tour of California, which will take place at the State Capitol.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 13,10th Street from N to K streets will be closed as will L Street from 9th to 13th streets.
On Saturday, February 14, beginning at 8 a.m., no parking will be allowed on the following streets, which will also be closed to traffic: 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th streets between L and N streets.
Emergency vehicles will be allowed but local access will be limited.
The entire course will be subject to rolling closures for pre-race events beginning at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. See course map at http://www.cityofsacramento.org/amgen/downtown.html
The entire course encompasses:
Capitol Mall between 4th and 9th streets
9th between Capitol and N streets
N between 9th and 19th streets
19th street between N and L streets
L between 11th and 19th streets
At 1 p.m., the entire course will be closed to traffic until approximately 4 p.m. At 4 p.m., all blocks will begin to reopen with the exception of Capitol between 8th and 9th streets, L Street between 9th and 13th streets, and 10th Street between N and K streets.
Consequently, on-street parking will be impacted. Approximately 400 on-street parking spaces will be posted “no parking” for the event. Cars remaining after the posted times will be towed. The City is posting signage three days prior to the event to provide advance notification.
The City’s Capitol Garage at 10th and L streets will be open on the day of the event until 1 p.m.
10th Street between J and L will be temporarily converted into a controlled two-way street so the 10th Street entrance to Capitol Garage can be accessed by parkers for entering and exiting until 1 p.m. At 1 p.m. the garage will be closed to new parkers, however, exiting will be allowed. No spectators will be allowed in the Capitol Garage.
Due to its location within the course, the City’s East End Garage will not be available to the public until after 4:00 p.m.
The City’s Police and Transportation departments are encouraging motorists to plan ahead and avoid the course area the day of the race.
Due to the large number of spectators anticipated, the Department of Transportation also will have staff monitoring the occupancy of all City garages. When nearing capacity, drivers will be directed to alternative parking garages. Parking Services highly recommends using the City Hall Garage at 10th and I streets, Old Sacramento Garage at 3rd and I streets, the Downtown Plaza West Garage at L and 3rd street, the Downtown Plaza East Garage with entrances on J and L streets and the Tower Bridge garage off Capitol.
