Stolen Vehicle Suspect Apprehended

Shortly after 6:22 am this morning (12/31/08), Sacramento Sheriff’s Deputies located a reported stolen vehicle in a parking lot on Howe / El Camino Avenues. As the Deputy was waiting for additional units, three people got into the stolen vehicle and drove away. As units attempted to pull the vehicle over, the suspects sped off.

The pursuit continued on and off several freeways and through neighborhoods in the northern part of Sacramento. As the suspects fled, they turned off the vehicle lights in an attempt to elude officers. The suspect vehicle crashed into a pickup truck as they crossed against the light at the intersection of Lexington Street and El Camino Avenue. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The impact caused the driver’s side door to be crushed and the driver to lose consciousness. Emergency medical personnel responded to remove the suspect driver from the stolen Honda Accord. The other two passengers exited from the passenger side. All three occupants of the vehicle were transported to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment and observation. The two passengers were treated and released. The Driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Tron PHAM, is currently at the UC Davis Medical Center receiving treatment for severe injuries. Upon medical clearance he will be facing charges of auto theft, receiving stolen property, felony evading causing injury, and a violation of his parole. The two passengers were questioned at the scene and were not arrested.
