Today at approximately 4:30 PM two Woodland Police officers were checking at 36 Oak Avenue Apt 28 for an individual wanted on a parole hold. While searching the apartment they encountered an armed subject believed to be the parolee. The parolee and officers exchanged gun fire. The officers retreated from the apartment and secured the scene.
Upon the arrival of addition police and allied agency personnel a remote controlled robot was able to enter the apartment and verify the presence of an adult male lying motionless on the floor. Tactical officers then entered the apartment and found the individual to be deceased. This was verified by Woodland Fire Department personnel.
Neither officer was injured in the incident. Both a criminal and procedural investigation into the death has been initiated.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending verification by the Yolo County Coroner. The individual appeared to be a male in his late forties or early fifties.
