Folsom Police detectives arrested a 14-year old Folsom resident on felony vandalism charges. On January 22nd, 2009 approximately 10:15 A.M. detectives arrested the juvenile at his residence without incident. He was released from police custody and will be summoned to a hearing of the charges by the Sacramento County Juvenile Probation Department.
Investigators began focusing their investigation on the juvenile after receiving information from concerned citizens about his possible involvement in a series of spraypaint graffiti vandalisms. Detectives have tied the juvenile to at least 25 separate acts of vandalism that occurred between December 14, 2008 and January 21, 2009. Total damages were estimated to be in excess of $10,000.
The majority of these vandalisms that are sometimes referred to as “tagging”, targeted private residences, businesses, and vehicles. “The crime of vandalism is particularly insidious because of the unnecessary financial burden it places on the victims”, said Lieutenant Sheldon Sterling, Commander of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. “I am very pleased our detectives were able to arrest the suspect and reduce this significant quality of life issue in our community”.
