Detectives Arrest Homicide Suspect

On January 29, 2009, detectives assigned to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Unit arrested 30-year-old Sacramento resident Derrick Sam for the December 19, 2008, murder of 30-year-old Timothy Brodie. Sam was arrested at the Homicide Unit’s office where he had been brought for questioning.

Detectives believe Brodie was kidnapped during the early evening hours of December 19, 2008, and taken to an apartment complex on Laurelhurst Drive in Rancho Cordova. Brodie was shot several times in the parking lot at that location and died at the scene. The victim’s vehicle was found the next day in Carmichael where it had been set on fire.

Sam was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on the charges of murder, kidnapping, arson, and false imprisonment. Sam is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on February 2, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 60.

The investigation into Timothy Brodie’s murder is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Sheriff’s Homicide detectives at (916) 874-5115 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00.
