CHP Arrests Man For Abuse Of 911

The California Highway Patrol has arrested a Sacramento man for abuse of the 911 Dispatch Line. Jaime Best, 35, was taken into custody for making over 300 nuisance cellular phone calls to 911 from December 30th, 2008 to January 16th, 2009. Mr. Best started out with vulgar messages, but quickly worked his way up to making false calls of shootings and eventually a bomb threat to a State facility. The CHP’s Valley Division Investigative Services Unit (I.S.U.) worked diligently and effectively and took Mister Best into custody in the South Sacramento Area on the evening of January 16, 2009, following 83 calls to 911 on that day alone. Mister Best was then booked into the Sacramento County Jail.

The act of making false calls to the 911 Emergency Line is very serious crime. Not only does it place officers in a position to have to investigate each of these calls, it also takes officers away from legitimate service to the public, which is one of our primary goals.
