Police Investigate South Area Homicide

On Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at 4:59 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a call regarding a shooting along the 8400 block of Tambor Way. Responding Officers located a male victim lying in a garage. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

The Sacramento Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to the scene. At this time, it appears the victim, 39-year-old Steve Lo, was standing near his garage preparing to leave for work when he was shot. Mr. Lo was employed as a Correctional Officer with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He had been an Officer for approximately three years and was assigned to the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, CA. Mr. Lo was in full uniform at the time he was killed.

This is all the information available at this time. The Sacramento Police Department is working closely with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to ensure whoever is responsible for this homicide is held accountable.

Two Alarm Fire On The American River Parkway

The Sacramento Fire Department responded to a reported brush fire along the bike trail near the Campus Commons Golf Course. The fire was wind driven and in heavy under growth. A second alarm was requested.

Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to some apartment buildings and offices located adjacent to the bike trail. There was also a concern to some high voltage power lines that were directly above the fire. Crews from SMUD responded and were evaluating the lines.

There have been no reported Firefighter injuries and the cause has not been determined. Sacramento Firefighters received help from Sacramento Metro and West Sacramento Firefighters.
