Suspect Dies While In Custody

On Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at approximately 12:38 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 3000 block of Miramonte Drive on a disturbance call. Officers arrived and contacted a person related to the disturbance call who was found to be on parole. The subject was in violation of his parole conditions and was taken into custody without incident.

Officers transported the suspect to the Sacramento County Main Jail and brought him into the medical area to be cleared for incarceration. The subject tensed his arms up and it was unclear initially if the person was resisting or was having a medical problem. The subject was laid on to ground. The subject was found to be having a medical problem and an ambulance was immediately called for.

The subject was transported to Sutter General Hospital and later died. The cause of death is unknown at this time. The subject’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The investigation is being conducted by the Sacramento Police Department, City of Sacramento Office of Police Accountability, and the District Attorney’s Office.
