The California Highway Patrol (CHP), South Sacramento Area, office is conducting an investigation of a fatal collision that occurred this morning on SR-12 east of SR- 160.
At approximately 11:55 A.M. a big rig with trailer was traveling westbound on SR-12 east of SR-160. A silver, Nissan Altima, driven by a 39 year old Lodi, CA. resident was traveling eastbound on SR-12. The Nissan’s driver for an unknown reason drove into the westbound lane of traffic directly into the path of the big rig. This resulted in a head on collision between the two vehicles. The big rig subsequently rolled over and caught on fire. The driver was assisted out of the cab of the big rig before it was consumed in flames. He was transported to Kaiser in Antioch with unknown injuries and possibly minor burns.
The driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene. A male, juvenile, who was a passenger in the Nissan was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Concord with reported major injuries. The names of both drivers will not be released until proper notifications are made.
