Road Closures For Sunday’s California International Marathon

Race organizers and entrants in the California International Marathon realize that the success of this event is largely dependent on the cooperation of Sacramento-area residents with respect to street closures. Sunday’s 26th annual race begins at 7 a.m. and finishes in front of the state Capitol.

With nearly 12,000 runners expected to compete in the 26.2-mile race, the safety of the competitors is predicated on timely road closures. The “close/open” times are based on a 3-minute mile pace for the first racer and a 14-minute mile pace for the slowest, coupled with the added time it takes for barrier removal.

Below is the timetable used by the trailing California Highway Patrol car to reopen the course for regular traffic.

Important notes:
Expect large gaps after first racer. All cross traffic carefully.
Slower runners might fall behind the reopen times shown here. In such cases, the runners are considered pedestrians responsible for heeding normal traffic laws.
The finish line area around Capitol Mall and 8th, 9th and 10th streets will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
