Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle Dies At Hospital

The California Highway Patrol (CHP), South Sacramento Area, office is conducting an investigation of a fatal collision that occurred on December 28, 2008 on Stockton Blvd. near Requa Way.

On the evening of December 28, 2008, at approximately 8:48 P.M., Duc Minh Banh (53), from Sacramento, was walking on the east roadway shoulder of northbound Stockton Blvd. Luis Mendoza (58), also from Sacramento was driving his 2002 Hyundai northbound on Stockton Blvd. in the slow lane. Mendoza observed Banh on the roadway shoulder as he approached. Banh suddenly entered the roadway directly into the path of Mendoza’s vehicle. Mendoza attempted to stop, but his vehicles front end struck Banh propelling him onto the roadway. Banh was transported to the U.C. Davis Medical Center where he died of his injuries on December 29, 2008 at 1:19 P.M. Mendoza was interviewed and released at the scene. Although the investigation is continuing in the collision, no charges are anticipated against Mendoza.
