Motor Officer Injured

At approximately 11:15 a.m. today, December 19, 2008, while in uniform and riding a police motorcycle, a Sacramento County deputy sheriff, assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department, was involved in an accident when he was struck by another vehicle. The accident occurred in Sutter County near the junction of Highways 99 and 113 and is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol. The deputy was transported by helicopter to Sutter Roseville hospital. He was able to talk with emergency personnel at the scene, and he remained conscious throughout his transport and during his treatment at the hospital. He remains in the hospital for further treatment and observation, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The Deputy is 39-years-old and has been with the Sheriff’s Department for seven years. He has been assigned as a contract police officer for the City of Rancho Cordova for the last four-and-a-half years.
