Child Homicide Arrest

At 4:00 am on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 10450 Mills Tower Drive, Rancho Cordova, to investigate the death of an infant. Deputies responded to this location after learning of the infant’s death, while on an unrelated call at the UC Davis Medical Center.

The responding deputies’ initial investigation revealed that the woman had given birth to the infant while on the toilet. It had been reported to emergency medical personnel by a female roommate after she discovered the woman and infant in the bathroom.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Child Abuse detectives began investigating what lead up to the infant being born in the bathroom and his ultimate death. After an extensive investigation, detectives were able to determine that the suspect had intentionally allowed her infant to die.

After forensic analysis and investigation by the Sacramento County Coroners Office, it was determined that the full term 8 pound baby boy was born alive and intentionally drowned in the toilet after the suspect severed the umbilical cord. Today, based on the complete Coroners report and the Sheriff’s investigation, Detectives arrested 33-year-old Kristen Gibson for homicide and assault resulting in the death of a child.

Gibson is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail and will be arraigned at the New Main Jail Court, Department 61, on December 8th at 1:30 pm.
