Suspicious Death On Salmon Falls Drive Ruled A Homicide

On November 9, 2008, at 5:54 p.m. Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from the fire department to assist them on a call reporting a man down inside his residence in the 9000 block of Salmon Falls Drive. Deputies arrived and found 52-year-old Edward Chaney lying in the living area of his residence. Chaney was unconscious, unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors first discovered Chaney when they went to visit him at his residence. When Chaney did not answer the door, they looked through the front window and saw him lying motionless on the floor. They dialed 9-1-1 after they entered the home and were unable to wake him. Neighbors told deputies Chaney had lived alone in the duplex since June of 2007.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s office has now determined Chaney’s death was caused by a gunshot wound and the manner of death was homicide.

Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are urging anyone who saw, spoke to, or knows the whereabouts of Edward Chaney on Sunday, November 9, 2008, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. to call Sheriff’s Homicide detective Elaine Stoops at (916) 874-6881 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00.
