The Sacramento Fire Department responded to a reported Haz Mat incident this morning at the California Environmental Protection Agency.
Crews arrived and received a report that employees had opened an envelope on the eleventh floor and some unknown liquid leaked out. Immediately employees noticed a foul odor, and experienced minor respiratory distress. The employees had moved the envelope down to a loading dock on the ground floor.
A Sacramento Fire Department Haz Mat Team was unable to identify what the liquid was; only that it was an unknown material that posed no apparent hazard. Sacramento County Haz Mat personnel were also on scene.
A total of thirteen Cal EPA employees were either transported to local hospitals or treated and released at the scene.
