40Th Street Homicide Victim Identified

On November 26, 2008, at 7:39 a.m. Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle parked on 40th Street just north of 44th Avenue. Deputies arrived and found the vehicle, a white 1994 Ford Taurus (see photo below), which had what appeared to be blood leaking from the trunk. The deputies opened the trunk and found the dead body of an adult male believed to be in his mid to late twenties. The deputies did not move the body and were unable to detect any visible signs of trauma.
The victim has now been identified, by fingerprints, as 33-year-old Vallejo resident David Joshua Barreda (see photo below) – also know as “Johnny Vidal” or “King Rizz.” Barreda was known to have had ties to San Pablo, San Jose, and East Palo Alto as well. The Sacramento County Corner’s Office has determined Barreda’s death was caused by a gunshot wound and they do not believe he was murdered at the location where the vehicle and his body were found.
Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are appealing for the public’s assistance in order to help them solve this murder. Residents in the neighborhood where the vehicle was found have told detectives they remember seeing the vehicle as early as 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008.
Detectives are urging witnesses who may have seen anyone near the vehicle to call them. They are also urging anyone who may have knowledge as to the whereabouts of David Joshua Barreda during the days and hours leading up to the discovery of his body to please call them at (916) 874-5115, or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00.
